The MEL contains units and systems that may be inoperative or missing on the aircraft for a period specified by the MEL Category, without reducing the safety of the aircraft’s operation. The main purpose of the list is to minimize passenger discomfort due to service delays, reduce engineering costs, and improve aircraft utilization. This list is typically applicable at all transit stations where equipment and time are insufficient for rectifying defects, as well as at the base.
